The brand of Maynards is one steeped in history and heritage – Charles Riley Maynard, the forefather of the Maynards brand,
started his sweet business in the UK in 1880, and in 1909, wine gums were first launched by son Charles Gordon Maynard who
had a difficult time trying to convince his teetotaler father that the sweet didn’t contain real wine!
Beacon purchased the rights to the Maynards brand in Southern Africa in 1949 and since then the tri-sweet color wine gum
rolls have become a household staple and an absolute must for cinema-goers.
In July 2004, Beacon embarked on the creation of a new mega-brand in sweets, through the range consolidation of
six brands in gums, jellies, beans, and chews under the Maynards brand, and the simultaneous rejuvenation of the brand’s
personality.
The Maynards Manufacturing Unit is in Jacobs in Durban South Africa.
